Electronics Supply Chain

  • The electronics industry’s global supply chain has evolved over many decades in response to market demands and government policies. The growth of electronics manufacturing in Asia over the last 30 years led to gaps in the electronics supply chain in other nations.

  • IPC supports government initiatives to help grow the electronics supply chain in all countries.

  • IPC supports ongoing efforts to assess the U.S. defense electronics industrial base with the goal of identifying and addressing gaps in that supply chain.

  • IPC supports the establishment of long-term funding and policy direction for the U.S. Defense Department’s Executive Agent for Printed Circuit Boards.

IPC Reviving R&D on Lead-Free Electronics

Over the last 15 years, tighter regulations on the use of lead (Pb) have resulted in a global transition to Pb-free consumer electronics. But aerospace, defense, and other high-performance sectors have been slower to make the switch, in part because there has not been enough R&D. IPC and a consortium of stakeholders are working to put this research back on track. Learn more in this IPC news release.

U.S. Bare Printed Circuit Board Industry Survey Results

The U.S. government is working to understand and address the health of the U.S. electronics industrial base, including defense capabilities and readiness. This presentation, based on a 2015 industry survey and presented at IPC APEX EXPO in 2018 by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Technology Evaluation, provides baseline industry data.
