Industry Importance
Karnataka is on the top of the India map when it comes to Electronics, Semiconductors and similar new age technology development, R&D and manufacturing. The Government of Karnataka provides special emphasize to Mysuru when it comes to electronics manufacturing. Lahari provides a significant impetus to the initiative of Electronics System Design & Manufacturing. Lahari is the first-in-kind initiative supported by Government of India, Government of Karnataka in partnership with industry, to promote the growth of electronics sector. It is the first public-private partnership engagement, with the goal of enhancing more ideas, new designs, and new products while gaining access to worldwide markets. Lahari’s ESDM testing facilities aims to provide support to all electronics industry, from start-ups to MSME to large industries and promote new product designs and compliance at affordable prices. It aims to service entire electronic industries such as medical devices, IT hardware (product & sub-assemblies/components), power, energy and telecom (products like inverters, switch gears, control gears, meters etc.), automotive, military and aerospace.
The region has Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies. EMS is a sector that provides contract design, production, and after-sales support to OEMs maintaining quality & standard in electronics assembly. This is a critical phase in many types of electronic devices specially used for defence industry. PCB assembly & wiring harness plays a vital role in connecting all electronic and electrical components for sensor signals, power supply, and transmitting data. IPC Standard on Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies & Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies ensures electronic & Wire Harness assemblies meet acceptance requirements for the electronics industry. It is important for companies to adhere to “Standards” in the manufacturing process to meet reliability & enhancing quality of product for defence & industrial applications.
Hand Soldering
Printed Circuit Board assembly is the very important process in the Electronic Manufacturing in ensuring the quality and reliability of the product. Technicians who perform the soldering process on the production shopfloor possess proficiency in their skills in soldering skills, which help their companies to manufacture the products to meet the expectations of the customers. IPC India Hand Soldering competitions initiative supported by various Sector Skills Council of India promotes the drive for ‘Skilling India” mission and encourages specialized skill development in electronics industry. The initiative supports companies in staff motivation; adopting best practices; following industry standards; encouraging up-skilling & re-skilling; recognizing good performers & rewarding skills.
