Industry Importance:
The state of Kerala has world-class research, development & testing facilities to support the electronic industries. Kerala has many companies engaged in the manufacture of various components, products and services catering to High end electronics / Defence sectors. Kerala is the first State in the Country to setup a company dedicated to Electronics (KELTRON). Kerala holds immense potential to become a regional hub for electronics hardware manufacturing sector. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, is the lead centre of ISRO responsible for the design and development of launch vehicle technology. The Centre pursues active research and development in the fields of aeronautics, avionics, materials, mechanisms, vehicle integration, chemicals, propulsion, space ordnance, structures, space physics and systems reliability.
The region has prospect for Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS). EMS is a sector that provides contract design, production, and after-sales support to OEMs maintaining quality & standard in electronics assembly. This is a critical phase in many types of electronic devices specially used for defence industry. PCB assembly & wiring harness plays a vital role in connecting all electronic and electrical components for sensor signals, power supply, and transmitting data. IPC Standard on Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies & Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies ensures electronic & Wire Harness assemblies meet acceptance requirements for the electronics industry. It is important for companies to adhere to “Standards” in the manufacturing process to meet reliability & enhancing the quality of products for defence & industrial applications.
